A 16-year-old boy has been charged with murder after a stabbing in Croydon.
Lucas Sutton, 22, was found injured by emergency services in Pawsons Road at around 7.45pm on May 24.
He was taken to hospital for treatment where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
A 16-year-old boy was taken into custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder on Wednesday (May 24).
He will appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court today (May 26) charged with murder.
A post-mortem examination, which was carried out yesterday (May 25), gave a preliminary cause of Lucas' death as stab wounds.
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, who is leading the investigation, said: "This is a devastating time for Lucas' family and my thoughts are with them. We will do everything we can to bring those responsible for his death to justice.
"We believe Lucas was stabbed during an altercation in Mayo Road involving a number of black males who were later seen running away from the area.
"We are making good progress with our investigation and an arrest has been made, however we need to hear from anyone with information about what happened.”
The full statement from Metropolitan Police says: “Lucas Sutton, 22, died in hospital following the attack in Pawsons Road on Tuesday, 23 May.
“The investigation into his death continues and a 16-year-old boy remains in custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder on Wednesday, 24 May.
“Police were called at approximately 19:45hrs on Tuesday, 23 May to reports of a stabbing in Pawsons Road.
“Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance.
“A 22-year-old man was found with stab injuries. He was taken to hospital, where was pronounced dead a short time later.
“Whilst formal identification is yet to take place, he has been named as Lucas Sutton, from Croydon.
“A post-mortem examination carried out on Thursday, 25 May gave a preliminary cause of death as stab wounds.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said today (May 26): “A male will appear in court charged with the murder of a man in Croydon.
“The 16-year-old male will appear in custody at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 26May charged with the murder of 22-year-old Lucas Sutton.
“Lucas died after being stabbed in Pawsons Road, Croydon on Tuesday, 23 May.
“Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command investigate – enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
