A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been found guilty of outraging public decency after he exposed himself in a north London park.
Detective Constable Dariusz Alexander, attached to the Roads and Transport Policing Command (RTPC), was convicted yesterday (June 22).
The offence took place on March 18, when two officers were carrying out enquiries in a Hampstead park following an incident that had occurred several days before.
One of the officers noticed a man looking at him while masturbating.
The officers approached the man and identified themselves as police officers before arresting him.
During a search, a warrant card identified him as Met police officer DC Dariusz Alexander. He was off-duty at the time.
DC Alexander, who court documents show is 48 years old and lives in Archway Road, Highgate, was suspended from duty with immediate effect and charged in April.
He has now been given conditional discharge for six months and ordered to pay costs of £625 and a victim surcharge of £26.
Detective Superintendent Christina Jessah, who is in charge of RTPC, said: “We know this incident understandably caused some concern and a thorough investigation was carried out by detectives.
“This ultimately led to DC Alexander’s conviction and misconduct proceedings will now take place.”
A police spokesperson said that a referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which said a local investigation should be carried out.
