A former Wetherspoon pub front has been given a spruce-up as part of an effort to make the town centre more appealing.

Romford Business Improvement District (BID) has installed floral designs on The World's Inn, in South Street.

The pub closed its doors for the final time on April 16.

Romford BID, a business-led body formed to improve the town centre, also announced a litter pick on July 26 from 10am until 2pm.

Eager commenters praised the change to The World's Inn and welcomed improvements to the town centre.

"That's nice, so much better than the silver metal," said Sandra Stimpson in response to a Facebook post from Romford Civic Society.

"Great idea," Shauna Holmes added. "Why not do this on other empty shops in town?"

The litter pick is a day before judging for London In Bloom and the BID is inviting residents to take part.

St Edward's Church is the meeting place at 10am, with all necessary equipment provided by the BID.

Julie Frost, Romford BID director, said: “We want the town to look its very best. So please, if you are available, come and join us clean up Romford on 26 July."
