London’s first rooftop basketball court has opened in Greenwich this month and the views are incredible.

The new basketball courts opened in the setting of London’s Design District in the Greenwich Peninsula, offering open-air basketball to the public.

The basketball court offers visitors full views of the south east London skyline, where you’ll be able to see views of the O2 and Canary Wharf.

The venue is located within a minute's walk of North Greenwich Tube station, with links by underground from central London.

The new court is available to book by the hour from 6pm to 8pm on weekdays, and from 8am to 9pm on weekends and Bank Holidays, along with extended daytime hours for the Design District community.

Daniel Bailey, Design District tenant and Founder of Concept Kicks, said: “The comfort and freedom I have when working alongside like-minded creatives at Design District is one of the best advantages I could ask for as a creator.

“What may be surprising to most is that I initially entered the creative world through a love of basketball so the news of London’s first rooftop basketball court at the place I work feels like a full-circle moment.”

Alongside basketball, the court will also host a range of other sport and wellness activities, including yoga, and can also be hired for outdoor events and photoshoots.

To launch the new court, Design District partnered with UK premiere basketball team The London Lions, with an event hosted by NBA star O.G. Anunoby.

Jerome Quartey, Marketing Director for London Lions, said: “As a London-based basketball team, we value creativity highly and place it at the heart of everything we do – both on and off the court.

“We’re delighted to partner with Design District to raise awareness of this awesome space, which boasts a unique rooftop basketball court and a central hub for the creative economies to thrive.

“The court is extremely convenient for the community, so everyone of all ages and backgrounds can enjoy what it has to offer.”
