A Forest Hill Indian restaurant has been shortlisted for the title of "Best London Restaurant" at the highly anticipated Asian Curry Awards.
Babur, a restaurant that has been running for almost 40 years, is competing with over 200 venues from across the UK fighting for the title.
Established in 1985, the venue strives to showcase both classic regional dishes and modern culinary cuisine.
Their four or five course tasting menu is a highlight of the restaurant and showcases the dishes that the regulars tell them are their favourites.
The interior of Babur is a tasteful blend of style and authenticity, with exposed brick walls, warm wooden furnishings, and a collection of exquisite handmade Bengali artworks.
The Asian Curry Awards, often dubbed the "Curry Oscars" is described as being a brilliant source of recognition in the Asian culinary world.
The process will include public voting to determine the top 100 restaurants followed by a rigorous judging phase.
The final winners will be revealed at an awards ceremony scheduled for November 19, set against the backdrop of the opulent Grosvenor House in London and hosted by BBC news anchor Samantha Simmonds.
Babur has also earned a nomination for the title of "Favourite Restaurant of the Borough" in the Lewisham Mayor's Business Awards.
The public can cast their votes until October 15, with the winners set to be unveiled on November 7.
The driving force behind Babur's success is undoubtedly its dedicated culinary team, led by the visionary Head Chef Jiwan Lal.
The team continually strives to create innovative dishes that pay homage to the rich and diverse Flavors of Indian cuisine.
The restaurant has received an impressive 4.6 on Google Maps, with one review reading: “Absolutely delicious! We tried dishes from the special Taste of Bihar menu, including Tori Ki Tokri (courgette flowers and tart) and thoroughly enjoyed them! Perfect food and ambiance- not to mention the cocktails!”
Owner, Emdad Rahman, said: " "We are honoured to receive these prestigious awards and nominations, which serve as a testament to our ongoing commitment to culinary excellence and exceeding our customers’ expectations.
"We owe our success to our talented team and our loyal guests who have supported us on this remarkable journey for nearly four decades."
