IS LESS STILL ENOUGH ?

Our world,Our home, earth. We have all been informed at least once in our life of the dangers of global warming and increasing temperatures etc etc,in summary the devastation that is climate change.

As a community we have taken measures to prevent it as much as possible by using our three R's;Reduce, reuse, recycle and the government has taken precautions too by creating annual meetings,COP(Conference of parties) to set targets for our future. In April 2019 the Mayor of London introduced the ULEZ, an area in which drivers of more polluting vehicles must pay a daily charge, with the aim of reducing air pollution emissions from road transport and accelerating compliance with EU air quality standards. All of this is an effort to improve and gain hope for a better greener future but is it helping?.

The impact of COVID-19 did more than raise awareness in the excess and overuse of mechanised products in our daily lives, this happened due to the movement of restriction and significant slowdown of social and economic activities which then lead to air quality being improved in many cities and a reduction in water pollution in different parts of the world. However, because of the increase use of PPE(eg,face masks, hand gloves etc) and the constant disposal and generation of a huge amount of hospital waste this has lead to a negative impact on the enviroment. So in summary the pandemic has had a negative and positive impact on our environment.

Now back to the present, after all of this figures from the department for energy security and net zero have shown that even despite the rises in emissions as the UK is recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic,2022 saw a fall in greenhouse gas emissions in the UK, largely due to a reduction in fuel use to heat buildings. This could largely be because 2022 was considerably warmer than 2021 and higher energy prices(inflation) may also have been a factor, particularly towards the end of the year.

After all of this, decrease and increase we still have to do more, the global temperature is still increasing still meaning the devastation of climate change is growing upon us.Im asking you just question are we really doing enough…after all the destruction we've already done.
