On Sunday the 26th of November I went to a fabulous, huge party for Diwali that took place at Carshalton boys sports college with many events such as singing, dance and Tamil poem recital occurring. With delicious food and beverages being served, in the form of a potluck with each family bringing a different type of food. It was most certainly an event to attend. There were roughly 40 families that attended, all part of the CTK tamil school.
It started with many guests arriving from between 12.30 and 01.30 pm. Lunch began at roughly 01.30 with many vegetarian, non-vegetarian dishes and multiple different sweets being served. The most popular dish would be the chicken and mutton biryani, and it was served with raita (a mixture of yoghurt and usually onion). All the foods brought had a range of tastes and all the dishes were worth trying. My personal favourite was the chapati and chicken gravy.
It then led to a display of fantastic performances by people ranging from 6 years old till 19 years old. With a brilliant singing performance from Advaith which blew away the audience with his natural talent. Another memorable performance was a dance by a group of people in year 10 and 11 who put on a show for the audience.
The atmosphere was lively and festive with everyone simply enjoying the performances and each other’s company. Organised by many people who are a part of the CTK tamil schools federation, it felt well planned out without problems. However, the event lasted for 6 to 7 hours which at the end I was quite tired by the end of it, however it was a fantastic experience that is worth going to.
Overall, I would rate it a 4.4/5
