Lewisham has been rated the unhappiest borough in south east London, according to latest figures.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has used the results of a national survey which asked people to rate their level of happiness during the 12 months up to March 2023 to give district and borough council areas an average figure.
People were asked to rate their life satisfaction, happiness, and anxiety levels out of 10.
Below are the mean ratings of how happy people are in each south east London borough
Lewisham 7.27
Bromley 7.35
Bexley 7.39
Greenwich 7.42
Lewisham was found to be the least happy, with a means score of 7.27.
Just the year before, between April 2021 to March 2021, Lewisham was found to be the happiest borough in south east London with a means score of 7.44, and Greenwich came out as the least happy, with a means score of 7.11.
Greenwich, with its rich history, beautiful parks, and cultural attractions, may be considered the most desirable place to live for several reasons.
Lewisham, like any other area, is a community with both positive and challenging aspects.
Factors that might contribute to a perception of unhappiness in an area can include socioeconomic issues, crime rates, lack of community resources, and personal experiences.
