New data released by the Department for Education (DfE) has ranked Havering’s secondary schools based on the progress of pupils.
It provided Progress 8 scores to the schools that shows how much progress pupils made between the end of Key Stage Two and the end of Key Stage Four compared to pupils across the country.
The scores, it said, are based on results in up to eight subjects, which include English, maths, sciences, computer science, history, geography, and languages.
A score above zero is said to suggest that pupils made more progress, on average, than pupils across England who got similar results at the end of Key Stage Two. But a score below zero indicates less progress made by pupils compared to others.
The DfE clarified that a negative score does not mean that pupils made no progress or that the school failed but only that their progress was lower than other students with similar results at the end of Key Stage Two.
It further stressed that the data for the 2022-23 academic year should be used with caution as qualifications returned to pre-pandemic standards this year.
Performance measures, it said, that are based on qualification results will reflect this and cannot be directly compared to measures from 2021-22 as a different grading approach was used.
The DfE added: “There are ongoing impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, which affected individual schools, colleges and pupils differently.
“Performance data should be considered alongside a range of other information about the school or college, which could include looking at school or college websites, reading Ofsted reports, and speaking to the school or college directly.”
