We all know and love The Ivy as the perfect spot for a luxurious dinner to have out when you want to treat yourself.
But, you may not know that The Ivy does offer a more affordable menu so that you can have a glamorous evening out without breaking the bank.
Its 1917 menu costs £19.17 for two courses and you can pay an extra £5 if you want dessert.
For incredible food in a beautiful setting in central London, well, I don’t think you can get much better than that.
So, I headed to The Ivy Kensington Brasserie for a date night dinner trying out the 1917 menu.
To start, I chose to eat the wild mushroom soup with plant-based mascarpone, sourdough bread croutons and red amaranth.
The soup was packed with flavour and the mascarpone gave it a delicious creaminess.
I’m not a huge lover of mushrooms, but I would go back for this soup alone.
My boyfriend opted for the hot smoked salmon rillette with dark seeded pumpernickel style bread, crushed avocado, basil pesto and fresh herb salad which he also adored.
For my main course, I chose the pan-fried sea bream fillet with smoked aubergine purée, toasted almonds and a tomato, olive and shallot salsa.
On the side, I decided to treat myself to the extra virgin olive oil mashed potato.
The dish was divine and tasty, I demolished every bite.
My fish was perfectly cooked, the toasted almonds gave it a delightful crunch, it had a saltiness from the olives and a sweetness from the tomato and shallots.
The mashed potato was as mashed potato should be – creamy, rich and delicious
.
For his main course, my boyfriend opted for the grilled, thinly beaten beef steak with wild mushroom sauce, truffle and Parmesan chips and watercress.
The steak was cooked exactly as he asked for it, the chips were crispy and he thought that the mushroom sauce was to die for.
While I could definitely have stopped here, the desserts looked so good we just couldn’t resist.
I chose the crème brûlée with a caramelised sugar crust and I was wowed when it came out.
The portion was huge – definitely worth the extra fiver – and it was soft and sweet with the perfect layer of caramelised sugar to crack.
My boyfriend opted for the frozen berries with yoghurt sorbet, white chocolate sauce which was equally as scrumptious.
We also both chose a cocktail, which is not included in the 1917 menu, but we just couldn’t resist.
I highly recommend the Marlene Dietrich’s Glitz which is made up of elderflower liqueur, gin, citric blend, pear syrup, aromatic bitters, peeled cucumber and mint leaves and is topped with prosecco.
I am very selective with cocktails and rarely go for something new but this really blew me away, it was tart and citrus without being sour – a 10/10 from me.
The atmosphere was vibrant and buzzing as the brasserie was filled with people laughing and chatting.
The Ivy Kensington is just as stunning as the others are with the classic colourful, art deco inspired interior.
Who says The Ivy has to be expensive? If you want a nice meal for under £20 then I could not recommend this menu more – I was truly blown away by the quality.
And if you want to make the evening even more special, the cocktails are amazing and, in my opinion, worth adding to your meal.
