Crayford fish and chip shop worker jailed for child sex offences

Jasamritpal Singh, 34, met the girl when she went to The Parade Fish Bar in Crayford to buy food. 

He later bought her vapes and alcohol, grooming her into sexual activity. 

The girl said Singh had raped her and threatened her not to tell anyone. 

Singh denied everything until incriminating messages were found on his phone, at which point he pleaded guilty to five charges of sexual activity with a child. 

On Friday (March 15) Singh was jailed for eight years and six months, with an extended licence period of five years due to the threat he poses to children.

‘Grooming with vapes and alcohol’ 

Prosecutor Naomi Perry said Singh’s offending took place in 2023. 

He had groomed the girl with vapes and alcohol before bombarding her with protestations of love. 

When Singh heard that police were asking questions about their relationship he told the girl to delete messages from her phone, Ms Perry said. 

The girl later told police that Singh had touched her sexually and had sex with her without her consent. 

She said that he would not leave her alone and threatened her not to tell anyone. 

When Singh was interviewed at Lewisham Police Station he denied having any sexual contact with the girl.

He was initially charged with raping her three times, sexually assaulting her and attempting to rape her. 

The girl was then forced to endure the distressing process of being cross-examined in court and was accused of making it all up. 

But shortly before the trial began police gained access to Singh’s phone and found messages which proved the sexual contact. 

He then pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual activity with her on the basis that the sexual activity was “consensual”.

‘A serious threat to children’ 

In her victim impact statement the girl said the experience has affected her and changed her life in so many ways. 

“I think about what was happening to me on a daily basis,” she said. 

At Woolwich Crown Court, Judge Nicholas Heathcote Williams said Singh has not taken accountability for his actions and continues to pose a serious threat to children. 

“You still engage in a serious amount of misconceived blaming of the victim,” he said. 

On top of his eight-year and six-month sentence, Singh was given an extended licence period of five years. 

Singh will serve a minimum of five years and eight months before he can apply to be released. 

The court heard that after his release Singh intends to move back to India, where he had lived until he was 20. 

He will remain on the sex offenders register in the UK for life.
