The financial industry is known to be male dominated, with only 35% of women working in finance in 2023.
Even though the financial industry is majorly male dominated, there are some female CEOs. Including women also being in executive positions in financial firms.
An example of some leading women would be: Amanda Blanc is the CEO of AXA (UK), Alison Rose a former CEO of RBS and Jane Fraser the CEO of Citigroup an American investment bank.
However it is only recently that women have been getting into these 'c-suite roles' in the last 5-10 years.
Alison Walters a Head of Department, Enforcement at the FCA and had worked at the FCA for the last 25 years.
Even though women are beginning to work in executive positions, there is not a great diversity of women in these roles.
Walters said, "The three women that I referenced are all white women, they have probably been highly educated at some of the top institutions in the country."
Meaning that, "There isn't that social mobility that you see in some other industries where entrepreneurial women can make their way to the top."
On the other hand, women's achievements in finance are starting to be celebrated more on platforms such as LinkedIn. Also days like International Women's Day celebrate women in all industries. Women's History Month is also an important part of celebrating women's achievements.
