This historic Kent seaside town offers stunning beaches and local history and is just 90 minutes away from south east London.

Broadstairs is a small seaside town located on the Kent coast, best known for its Blue Flag beaches and independent shops.

With its colourful beach huts, historical buildings and idyllic beaches, it's easy to see why Broadstairs is a popular day trip location in Kent.

It’s accessible via train from Bromley South with a direct train reaching Broadstairs within 90 minutes.

Stone Bay is a popular sandy beach edged by towering white cliffs and rock pools, and is walkable from the nearby Viking Bay, but offers a more quieter resting spot for beach goers.

Joss Bay is popular among surfers with its 200-metre long stretch of sand and also offers disabled access for those with mobility issues.

The beach also features lots of amenities including a café, beach shower and accessible toilets.

The seaside town is also known for its links to Victorian novelist Charles Dickens who frequented the area.

Visitors interested to learn more about the author can visit Dickens House Museum, which was the cottage that inspired the home of Betsey Trotwood in David Copperfield.

Today the house features a collection of items that belonged to Dickens, including the letters he wrote about Broadstairs along with a display of Victorian costumes.

The town also hosts an annual Dickens Festival and this year's festivities are set to take place between June 14 and June 16, where people dressed in Victorian garb will take to the seaside town to commemorate the author who spent so much time there.

The town is also a popular spot for shoppers, with its array of independent shops selling antiques, gifts, home furnishing and plants.

Foodies can explore the town's variety of restaurants, cafés and pubs in the town.

The Tartar Frigate is an 18th century pub located on Harbour Street that serves a range classic of British dishes like fish and chips and steak, with mains starting from £17.

For Italian food visit Sardinia, serving authentic Italian cuisine along with a selection of crafted cocktails.

For those with a sweet tooth, stop off at Morelli's Gelato, an ice cream parlour dating back to 1932 that serves ice creams and a range of other desserts.
