The most popular names for babies born in south east London in 2022 have been announced.
These statistics provide a snapshot of naming trends across the boroughs, showcasing a mix of classic and contemporary names that continue to resonate with parents.
Here are the top baby names across the south east London boroughs and Dartford according to The Office for National Statistics:
Lewisham:
• Girls: Maya (19 babies), replacing Olivia from 2021.
• Boys: Leo (24 babies), unseating Noah from 2021.
Bromley:
• Girls: Amelia and Olivia (24 each), taking over from Olivia in 2021.
• Boys: Leo (31 babies), replacing Arthur from 2021.
Bexley:
• Girls: Amelia and Florence (16 each), replacing Olivia from 2021.
• Boys: George and Noah (21 each), unseating Arthur from 2021.
Greenwich:
• Girls: Sofia (25 babies), replacing Amelia from 2021.
• Boys: Noah (30 babies), replacing Arthur from 2021.
Southwark:
• Girls: Mia (14 babies), unseating Maya from 2021.
• Boys: Noah (23 babies), unseating Leo from 2021.
Dartford:
• Girls: Ivy (16 babies), replacing Sienna from 2021.
• Boys: Leo (17 babies), unseating Noah from 2021.
On a national level, James Tucker, head of health analysis at the Office for National Statistics explained: "Noah was the most popular name for boys in 2022, for the second year in a row, having replaced Oliver at the top in 2021."
Muhammad was the second most popular boys’ name in 2022, up from fifth place in 2021, while George remained third, Oliver dropped from second to fourth and Leo climbed one place to fifth.
The top four girls' names were unchanged year-on-year, with Olivia followed by Amelia, Isla and Ava, while Lily rose two places from seventh to fifth.
Mr Tucker added: "Theodore, Theo and Freddie are three new entries into the top 10 boys' names in 2022. Isabella is the only new entry into the girls' top 10."
