The Blackwall Tunnel is set to close to southbound traffic this weekend for work on a new road layout on the A102, as part of the Silvertown Tunnel Project.

The closure will run from 12.01am on Saturday morning until 5am on Monday morning.

The tunnel will remain open to northbound traffic.

At times there may be diversions on the approach, or northbound traffic may be diverted through the southbound tunnel.

Maintenance closures of the tunnel in both directions will continue as normal - these take place between 11.59pm Saturdays and 7am Sunday mornings.

During the weekend closures, TfL expect roads and alternative river crossings in east and central London to be “extremely busy” with long delays to your journey.

Queues along the A13 westbound between Canning Town and Whitechapel and on the approaches to Rotherhithe Tunnel throughout the weekend are expected.

For journeys in central London, use Tube and rail where possible.

HGVs and other large vehicles are advised to use routes away from central London.

The Woolwich Ferry will still operate on these weekends, however you may not be able to board the first ferry as long queues are expected.

On closure weekend, from 10pm on Friday until 11.59am on Sunday, bus 108 will operate a split service:

• Stratford international - Canning Town

• North Greenwich - Lewisham

From midnight on Sunday Northbound buses will return to their normal line of route and Southbound buses will be diverted via Tower Bridge.

From 5am on Monday normal services will resume.
