Sir Keir Starmer meets volunteers at Harlesden Town Garden

The Harlesden Town Garden, a volunteer-run urban garden in Harlesden, welcomed the Labour leader on June 8.

The visit formed part of The Big Help Out 2024 weekend, a campaign promoting volunteering across the UK.

Sir Keir learnt about volunteer efforts to transform old park spaces into community horticultural hubs.

Starmer was invited by Georgia Gould, the Labour Party's candidate for the Queen’s Park and Maida Vale constituency, which includes Harlesden, and Councillor Mili Patel, deputy leader of the London Borough of Brent.

The trio joined in a gardening effort, planting flowers donated by the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Cllr Patel said that it was "great to welcome" Keir Starmer to Harlesden.

She added: "He was keen to meet with local volunteers, learn about the history of Harlesden Town Garden and help us with the planting."
