Firefighters took almost five hours to bring a blaze at an industrial estate in Rainham under control.
London Fire Brigade (LFB) received almost 40 calls about the incident in Ferry Lane, having first been alerted to the fire just after 1.15pm this afternoon (June 20).
A large plume of smoke could be seen after flames tore through a warehouse containing multiple industrial units.
Firefighters advised people to keep their windows and doors shut due to the high volume of smoke being produced, and to avoid Ferry Lane if possible.
A 25-metre cordon was put in place at the scene as a precaution. There were no reports of any injuries.
A LFB spokesperson confirmed that the fire was under control just before 6pm, almost five hours after firefighters were first called to the scene.
Crews from Barking, East Ham, Wennington, Dagenham and surrounding fire stations all attended the scene, with support from Kent Fire and Rescue Service and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service.
The cause of the fire is now under investigation and crews are expected to remain on scene throughout the evening.
