A woman has suffered a "brutal attack" near a north London train station, prompting police to launch an appeal.

On July 3 this year, between 9 and 10pm, a woman was attacked by a man who had been sitting on the floor near Farringdon station and had asked her for money.

British Transport Police (BTP) said the suspect pulled her arm, hair and repeatedly punched her in the face, as well as her arms.

"She sustained multiple bruises from the assault," BTP added.

Detective Chief Superintendent Mandy Horsburgh of City of London Police said: “This was a brutal attack on a woman in the City.

"No woman or girl should be made to feel unsafe or threatened while walking in public."

Det. Ch. Supt. Horsburgh added that it was a "terrifying assault" and urged witnesses to come forward.
