Bromley Council has confirmed that work is currently underway to end an “unauthorised encampment” that appeared in a park in the borough yesterday.

A local resident told News Shopper that there had been “around 30 vehicles” seen parked in Biggin Hill Recreation Ground in Bromley.

In a statement a spokesperson for Bromley Council confirmed that they were “aware of an unauthorised encampment” within the recreation ground and were working to resolve this.

They also added that the borough would work alongside police to end encampments “as swiftly as possible” and that the situation is currently being monitored.

Regular visitors to the park have also been advised that the car parks “remain locked” as part of precautions to secure the area.

Councillor Will Rowlands, Executive Councillor for Environment, said: “Whenever and wherever there is an unauthorised encampment in our borough we will always work with the Police to bring the encampment to an end as swiftly as possible.

“We can confirm that we are aware of an unauthorised encampment in Biggin Hill Recreation Ground, with work already underway to bring this to an end, with this work starting late on Thursday when we were first aware of the encampment.

“I am hopeful there will be some positive news about this shortly.

“We also continue to monitor activity locally as well, taking routine precautions to ensure that our land is as secure as it can be.

“Regular parks visitors will see that car parks remain locked at this time as part of this.”
