The Round Table Carshalton Fireworks will not be taking place this November due to “insufficient support” amongst other factors.
Since the 1950s, The Round Table has hosted an annual charity fireworks display in Carshalton Park on the nearest Saturday to Bonfire Night (November 5).
The display has taken place every year except for 2020 due to the pandemic.
However, Wallington and Carshalton Round Table have announced that the event will not take place in 2024.
The decision was announced on Tuesday (August 13) and followed careful consideration by the Round Table, who explained that it was due to insufficient support from Sutton Council.
Additionally, the Round Table cited increasing time commitments of their members and organisers, a decline in the group's numbers, and rising costs of running the event as factors in the cancellation.
The company have also struggled to maintain a strong membership to organise and run the event.
Despite the decision to cancel the event, The Round Table remains committed to charity, and have donated the money they raised through these events to worthy causes.
Looking ahead, they are exploring alternative charitable activities to pursue so they can continue to fundraise for the local community.
Anybody interested in joining their group to help raise funds for charity through new events can get in touch on The Round Table website.
A spokesperson for the London Borough of Sutton said: "We are sorry to hear the news about the fireworks display and we regret that no one from the Round Table has been in touch to discuss it further.
"We are always happy to help community groups and we value the work of the Round Table."
