If you’re looking for a restaurant serving up platters of seafood starting at £50, this spot in Bromley is a seafood lover's dream.

Ocean Basket first hit the Bromley scene in 2022 and is one of only two London-based stores the brand has.

The business became exceedingly popular in South Africa and Greece, serving up healthy dishes along with affordable sharing platters, which is something the business is best known for.

I recently went to the Bromley branch on Market Square to try it out.

The décor itself boasts a relaxed Mediterranean vibe with white furniture and plant-covered walls, and the vibe was very relaxed and clearly a popular spot judging by all the people there on the night.

To begin we each chose a flavour of their homemade lemonade, they have three to choose from including classic, watermelon and blood orange.

I chose the watermelon while my friend had the blood orange, and both were so flavourful and very refreshing for a warm summer's evening.

Now, as you can imagine, being a seafood restaurant the menu does mainly consist of seafood dishes like cod, calamari, fried crab, prawns and mussels, to name a few.

But they do also have other options like Greek salad, grilled or fried Halloumi and olives to really play on that Mediterranean feel.

You can also get dishes of Oysters starting at £19 for 6 as well as 12 prawns priced at £18.

After starting off with homemade bread with a selection of dips, we ordered some starters including the dynamite prawns served with tempura butter, along with the fried battered soft shell crab served with chilli and ginger sauce.

The crab took me by surprise as it comes served in the shape of an actual crab, but don’t let the shape fool you, the centre is flaky pieces of crab with crispy batter on the outside.

Moving onto the main attraction which were the platters, according to our server these are one of the business’ most popular dishes and I can see why.

A sharing platter for two costs £50, which came with an absolute abundance of food including six mussels, 12 prawns, a huge piece of cape and fried calamari, along with chips, rice and two types of homemade sauce.

I will say the mussels were my absolute favourite, the creamy sauce on top went so well and I would visit this place again simply to have the mussels alone, they were incredibly good.

The calamari was also delicious, as were the chips, and the fish which was flaky and went well with the sauces.

I was so surprised by the sheer amount of food we struggled to finish it, so you could easily split this between three people, and there is also the option to have it boxed up to eat later if you can’t make it through the platter.

They also had a really good selection of South African wines to choose from, including a crisp house Sauvignon Blanc which went so well paired with the fish.

If you enjoy Mediterranean-style food or are a fan of seafood, this place offers a little bit of the Mediterranean to Bromley at pretty affordable prices.

All in all, this is a great spot to try in Bromley this summer that won’t break the bank.
