A man has been charged after a man died following an assault at Southwark Underground Station.
Emergency services were called to Southwark Underground Station on Thursday (August 22) at around 9:44pm after a man was assaulted on the stairs.
The victim, a 28-year-old man, was taken to hospital in a critical condition where he later died on Saturday (August 24) surrounded by his family.
Rakeem Miles, 23, of East Street in Southwark, was arrested on Friday and later charged with Grievous Bodily Harm with intent.
The 23-year-old was remanded in custody and will appear at Inner London Crown Court on September 20.
Following the victim’s death, detectives from British Transport Police will make an application to change the indictment to reflect the change in the victim’s condition.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Paul Attwell said: "There is no place for violence on the rail network and I am urging anyone with information, who is yet to speak to us, to get in touch.
“We have specialist family liaison officers supporting the victim’s family and my thoughts remain with them at this incredibly difficult time.”
