A pedestrian was rushed to hospital after he was hit by a police van.

The Metropolitan Police says that the van was responding to an incident at the time when it struck a man at Turnpike Lane on Friday (September 6) at 2.40pm.

It happened near the junction of Alexandra Road and the London Ambulance Service was called to treat a man for a head injury.

He was taken to a major trauma centre, but according to the Met his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A spokesperson for the force added that no police officers needed hospital treatment.

There was a cordon in place for many hours, blocking off access to a stretch of Turnpike Lane.

The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed and inquiries continue, a spokesperson added.
