Romford lightning storm caught on camera by residents

Lightning strikes were spotted from Romford town centre, as well as from Harold Hill and Upminster in the early hours of Sunday morning (September 8).

Sarah O'Shea, from Romford, caught huge flashes of lightning on camera over South Street during the storm, between 2.20am and 3am.

Mum-of-two Sarah said: "I love watching storms, this one was brilliant and lasted a while."

Her photos racked up more than 1,000 reactions on Facebook.

Havering residents on social media described the storm as "epic", saying "that thunder was LOUD".

Robert Bourne from Hornchurch said on Facebook: "The storm tripped our electric in Hornchurch and the loudest clap of thunder that I have ever heard."

Emma commented on X: "I love a thunder storm, but this is next level.

"Sounds like the end of the world here in Romford."

Winding long lightning bolts were also pictured over Harold Hill and behind Upminster Bridge Station.

A yellow weather warning was issued across all of London, and large parts of England, on Sunday - with the showers becoming heavy and thundery at times.

Luckily, it's looking much less stormy in Havering today, with less than 5 per cent chance of rain and sunny intervals this afternoon.
