Cluedo 2 has arrived at Bromley’s Churchill Theatre on its UK tour that combines old-fashioned humour with a murder mystery.

Currently on at the Churchill Theatre until September 14, Cluedo 2 is directed by Mark Bell, director of The Play That Goes Wrong, with a script written by Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, writers of popular shows Goodnight Sweetheart and Birds of a Feather.

Following on from the success of the first Cluedo on stage, Cluedo 2 is set during the swinging 60s and has audiences guessing which of the suspects did it, as they would in the popular board game.

The show features popular caricatures such as Miss Scarlet, played by Coronation Street star Ellie Leach, and Casualty star Jason Durr as Colonel Mustard.

The plot takes place within an old stately home in the Sussex countryside, with moving elements that make the scene change from the downstairs sitting room to the upstairs library.

The set design is very reminiscent of shows like The Mousetrap and The Play That Goes Wrong, where the characters are trapped within a house cut off from the world by a terrible storm.

The play seemed to hinge between a classic murder mystery play and a parody-esque style performance.

The show had a lot of comedic moments that really hinged on one-liners and a lot of quintessential British wit – a clear trademark of the comedy style of scriptwriters Marks & Gran.

The play is intended for all ages, although there are some innuendos throughout that the adults will certainly understand.

The characters had a great on-stage chemistry with a dynamic range of accents and personalities, from bossy cook Mrs White, played by Dawn Buckland, to the American singer constantly confused about British phrases - Reverend Green, played by Gabriel Paul.

Jack Bennett gave a great performance as Wadsworth, the aspiring actor playing the role of a butler, despite characters believing him to be a real butler and making constant demands for cocktails.

There were a lot of plot twists that I didn’t see coming, with a rather Shakespearean ending as only two characters were left standing amidst a pile of cadavers after a chaotic turn of events.

The show was an enjoyable watch, being both an exercise of the mind as well as being funny and entertaining, and would be one I’d see again.
