A number of roads have been closed as fire crews work to tackle a blaze at a factory in Belvedere.

The fire broke out in Church Manorway near Mulberry Way just before 9.50am today (September 16).

More than 100 members of staff left the factory before the arrival of the brigade.

A cordon remains in place as firefighters work to make the scene safe.

Crews from Erith, Plumstead, Greenwich and surrounding fire stations are at the scene.

Road closures are currently in place in the following locations:

  • Mulberry Way is closed both ways at Church Manorway. 
  • Lower Road is closed both ways from Battle Road to A2016 Bronze Age Way. 
  • Bronze Age Way is closed both ways from B253 Picardy Manorway to A206 Queens Road (Erith Roundabout).

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters have been mobilised to a fire at a commercial property on Church Manorway in Erith.

“A conveyor belt was alight. Firefighters are working to support emergency service partners and make the scene safe.

“Over 100 members of staff left the property before the arrival of the Brigade this morning and that a cordon remains in place as firefighters work to make the scene safe.

“The Brigade was called at 0952. Crews from Erith, Plumstead, Greenwich and surrounding fire stations are in attendance at the scene.”

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 10.54am this morning (Monday 16 September) to reports of a fire incident at the junction of Clydesdale Way and Eastern Way, DA18.

“We sent resources to the scene, including members of our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and an incident response officer.

“Our crews attended and assisted our emergency services partners at the scene. Some of our crews were later stood down, while others remain at the scene.”
