Part of a busy road in Erith is set to remain closed today following a fire at a factory in Erith.

The fire broke out at a commercial property on Mulberry Way yesterday (September 16) at around 10am, with crews from London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service despatched to the scene.

The fire involved part of a corkscrew conveyer belt at the processing facility.

There were no injuries.

Fire crews remain on the scene today and the brigade has confirmed that crews are likely to remain in the area today and potentially into tomorrow to bring the fire under control.

A cordon has been put in place with part of the A2016 closed which will impact local businesses.

Several road closures are in place with multiple bus routes on diversion.

Further updates are expected later today.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters are responding to a protracted fire at an industrial site in Erith, involving a corkscrew conveyor belt at a processing facility.

“As part of our response, a cordon has been put in place, closing part of the A2016 and impacting a number nearby businesses.

“Firefighters are working hard to bring the incident under control and limit further disruption.

“Operations will continue through the day and may extend into tomorrow.

“Further information will be provided later today.”

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 10.54am on Monday 16 September to reports of a fire incident at the junction of Clydesdale Way and Eastern Way, DA18.

“We sent resources to the scene, including members of our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and an incident response officer. 

“Our crews attended and assisted our emergency services partners at the scene. Fortunately no one was injured.”
