A driver has been rescued by firefighters after his car was stranded in flood water following severe weather in the middle of the night.

Firefighters attended a vehicle stranded in floodwater on Manor Road in Wallington at 1.15am today (September 23).

The vehicle was stranded in around one metre's worth of floodwater.

 

One person was assisted from the vehicle by firefighters and a crew from Wallington Fire Station put a cordon in place.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain which is in place until 11.59pm today (September 23).

London Fire Brigade has issued a warning to take “extra care” if out today following a night of heavy rain across London.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson added: “A foot of moving water at just 6mph is enough to float a car.

“Always try and find an alternative route and make sure to check your journey before travelling."
