A new headteacher is hoping to "change perceptions" of a school rated 'requires improvement' by Ofsted.

Hogarth Primary School, in Brentwood, was taken over by Discovery Educational Trust in September last year after being given the critical Ofsted grade in February 2023.

The school, in Riseway, is now celebrating a leap in pupil achievements, with a 25 per cent improvement in its maths SATs, a 23pc rise in reading attainment, and a 16pc jump in its writing score.

Attendance is also up 3pc on the previous year.

The results come just one year after the conversion to academy status, with new headteacher Rob Watson drafted in to bring about improvements.

Mr Watson said the Brentwood school has improved after "getting the right people in the right places".

He said: "We have got outstanding teachers in post throughout the school.

"I am massively proud of the improvements and hard work our staff have put in.

"Come and have a look around and speak to us.

"We are changing perceptions by simply showing people around."

Parents are invited to visit the school for a tour at 9.30am on October 16, October 23, November 13, and November 20, or at 5pm on November 13.
