Footage shows the moment a phone snatcher on a moped targeted a lone woman.

Amari Scott, 20, of Wrythe Lane in Sutton, has been sentenced to four years in a Young Offender’s Institution for a series of robberies.

On March 6 a woman in Croydon had her iPhone snatched from her hands by an offender on a moped.

Less than an hour after the woman reported the incident to Croydon Police Station a second report came in that another victim had their phone snatched while waiting for the bus.

Police used phone tracking date to track down Scott and arrest him on the same day, still in possession of the two stolen phones.

While arresting him police also recovered a stolen motorbike.

Met Police said their officers are tackling robbery and theft as part of their commitment to making Croydon safer.

Chief Inspector James Weston said: “We understand the impact that robbery has on victims - it is invasive and frightening. That's why our teams are working so hard to deter and catch offenders to reassure our local community.

“Thanks to the hard work of officers, our partners and community grassroots organisations, we are stepping up our efforts and tackling the issues that matter most to the people of Croydon.”
