Six pubs in Bexley have been celebrated for their hard work and pint quality in the latest Real Ale (CAMRA) Good Beer Guide.

The 52nd edition of the guide features 4,500 pubs across the UK, and this year six Bexleyheath venues have made the prestigious list.

Despite the tough economic climate, over 900 new pubs were added, showcasing the dedication of pub owners and beer lovers alike.

Here’s a closer look at each of the six Bexley pubs recognised for their unique offerings and community value:

·  Barnehurst Bird & Barrel – A cosy micropub at 100 Barnehurst Road, opened in 2018 in a former tropical fish shop. It serves local house beers and national rotating options, with a small beer garden at the back.

·  Furze Wren – A large Wetherspoon pub located in Broadway Square, known for its wide selection of real ales and a spacious, people-watching-friendly atmosphere in the heart of the shopping area.

·  Kentish Belle – Bexleyheath’s first micropub, situated near the station at 8 Pickford Lane. It offers a rotating beer selection, real ciders, and regular events like quiz nights and mini-festivals.

·  Long Haul – Opened in 2020 at 149 Long Lane, this micropub serves Kentish real ales and ciders from a chilled cellar room. It has won local CAMRA Pub of the Year awards in both 2022 and 2023.

·  Robin Hood & Little John – Dating back to the 1830s, this historic pub at 78 Lion Road offers real ales from independent breweries and is known for its home-cooked food and welcoming atmosphere.

·  Penny Farthing – A quirky micropub at 3 Waterside, known for its riverside seating and a selection of ales and ciders. It has a phone-ringing fine that benefits charity and regularly participates in local events.

These six pubs represent the vibrant and diverse pub culture in Bexleyheath, offering everything from cosy micropubs to bustling town centre venues.

Each pub brings something unique to the community, whether it’s a rich history, locally brewed beers, or a lively events calendar.
