A historic Wetherspoons pub will be closing soon despite a petition to save it.
The George, in Wanstead, will have its final day of trading as a JD Wetherspoon pub on Sunday (October 13), a spokesperson for the chain has confirmed.
Wetherspoons confirmed in March that the High Street pub was "under offer" from another pub company, however until now has maintained that the pub will "remain open and trading as The George until it is sold".
The company who could be taking over the venue has not yet been revealed.

This closure comes despite more than 3,000 patrons and residents signing a petition to "Save the George".
Councillor Paul Donovan, who has been involved in the campaign, previously confirmed in an update at the beginning of September that the Wetherspoon board had considered the petition.
A "day of action" was also planned for October 20 as part of the continuing efforts of the Save the George campaign, which was set to encourage residents to share their memories of the pub over a drink.
However, this has since been cancelled after the announcement of The George's closing date.
The pub was formerly known as The George & Dragon Inn when it was built in 1716, and was renamed as The George in 1904 after it was rebuilt.
It was previously up for sale in 2012, when a Wetherspoons spokesperson advised they would continue leasing the pub up to 2034 - but these plans appear to have changed.
