An American restaurant in Romford town centre is closing immediately.

TGI Fridays, in The Brewery shopping centre, Romford, is one of 35 locations to shut after the company plunged into administration on September 18.

A deal was struck today (October 7) by Breal Capital and Calveton UK which has saved 51 restaurants from closing.

But more than 30 eateries - including TGI Fridays Romford - were not bought as part of the rescue deal.

Other locations in and around London set for closure include Croydon and Enfield, however Essex TGI Fridays such as Lakeside Shopping Centre, Basildon and Braintree were all saved by the deal.

The TGI Fridays in Westfield Stratford has also been acquired as part of the deal, and therefore will not shut.

Almost 2,400 jobs across the UK have been saved due to the rescue deal, but more than 1,000 staff have been made redundant from the 35 TGI Fridays set to close.

Julie McEwan, chief executive of TGI Fridays UK, told The Sun: "TGI Fridays is a much-loved brand with a rich heritage.

"The news today marks the start of a positive future for our business following a very challenging period for the casual dining sector as a whole.

"We look to the future with confidence that the TGI Fridays brand will continue to attract loyal and new guests."

TGI Fridays Romford opened in July 2018, taking over a site previously occupied by Thomas Cook.

The Brewery has been contacted for comment.
