TGI Friday’s in Croydon is set to close after the chain has crashed into administration.

The Sun reported today (October 7) that several jobs are in danger after the TGI Friday’s chain announced that 35 of its restaurants in different locations across the country would be closing after it went into administration on September 18, 2024.

A list of restaurants that will close has been published by The Sun today, with the Croydon branch on 704 Purley Way among those being axed.

A new deal was agreed today with private equity firms Breal Capital and Calveton UK to save 51 restaurants, including the London O2 branch, and will operate under the Liberty Bar and Restaurant Group Limited name.

Julie McEwan, chief executive of TGI Fridays UK, said: "TGI Fridays is a much-loved brand with a rich heritage.

"The news today marks the start of a positive future for our business following a very challenging period for the casual dining sector as a whole.

"We look to the future with confidence that the TGI Friday’s brand will continue to attract loyal and new guests."

A spokesperson for the new owners said: "We are delighted to be working with such an enthusiastic and committed management team to both modernise the business and capitalise on the heritage of this iconic brand."
