The Northern Lights lit up the night sky once again this year with rare sightings across many areas in the country.

Residents in south east London were among those who got to catch a glimpse of the sightings last night (October 10).

The most impressive sights happen when the sun emits really large clouds of particles called "coronal mass ejections".

The Northern Lights have been seen all across the UK in 2024.

According to Professor in Space Environment from the University of Birmingham Sean Elvidge, this is thanks to the biggest geomagnetic storm since 2003.

The 2024 storm has been so intense that it not only lit up the night sky but also disrupted satellites and power grids across the planet.

Pictures capturing the moment have come flooding in from residents with sightings noted in Bexleyheath, Orpington, Welling, Lewisham, Eltham, and Petts Wood.
