A man has been treated at the scene of a flat fire in east London.
Emergency services were called to a block of flats in Arnhem Place, Docklands just after 4pm yesterday (Thursday, October 11).
Part of the hallway on a fifth floor flat was damaged by the blaze.
The man was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service.
The fire is believed to be accidental and caused by the unsafe disposal of smoking materials and was extinguished by 5.13pm.
London Fire Brigade has warned about the dangers of failing to dispose of smoking materials safely.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "At the start of the month, for Stoptober, the Brigade reminded smokers about the importance of disposing of smoking materials safely after data showed it is a major cause of balcony fires.
“If you're a smoker, it’s absolutely vital you ensure your cigarette is completely out when you’ve finished smoking it.
"If you don’t, you risk causing a fire which could not only destroy your home, but also cost you your life.
Firefighters recommend that you have a look at our online home fire safety checker to make sure there are no hidden hazards in your home.
"The online tool will ask you a series of questions that will help us work out the level of risk in your home, or the home of someone you care for. It only takes a few minutes to get tailored advice to keep yourself and loved ones safe from fire.”
