A school in Brentwood is undergoing major refurbishment works, totalling more than £1 million.
Larchwood Primary School is having a range of improvements made to its building to modernise the heating, lighting, and water supplies.
The school already had a new roof installed two years ago.
Work is now underway to replace the water and heating distribution network.
The old pipe network, which was previously concealed in concrete underground, has been replaced externally with the help of a £600,000 government grant.
The new external system will be more easily accessible, the school said.
Classrooms have also been updated with new ceiling heaters replacing old radiators, as well as new sinks installed.
As part of another £500,000 project, an energy-efficient lighting system will introduce smart LED lights across the school.
These lights will automatically switch off when a room is not in use to save on costs.
A new electricity supply will also provide greater capacity for future technology additions at Larchwood Primary.

Ceilings and 46 fire doors are also being replaced throughout the school.
Headteacher Steve Bowsher said: "We have had lots and lots of work going on at Larchwood, which is great.
"We have invested almost £2 million over the last three years into the physical state of our building.
"Children and parents, and maybe even staff, might not physically see the differences.
"But what they will all see is lighting and heating that does not fail, and a school that is fit for years to come."
Mr Bowsher added that Larchwood Primary School is also hoping the refurbishment works will have a "positive impact" on its bills.

The primary school is part of Discovery Educational Trust, who have made "significant investments" so that the school is in a "really good condition".
Mr Bowsher said: "The funding has come from a pot of money the government sets aside specifically for building improvements.
"We have been really good, as a school and as a trust, in accessing this funding, which is fantastic."
