A Romford town centre Wetherspoons pub will reopen next week after months of refurbishment works, the chain has confirmed.

The Moon & Stars in South Street, will welcome customers again on Tuesday (October 22) at 8am as planned, a spokesperson for Wetherspoons has confirmed.

The pub, which closed at the beginning of July for refurbishment, was originally meant to reopen on July 30 - but this reopening was pushed back by almost three months.

A Wetherspoon spokesperson thanked customers for their patience while The Moon & Stars has been closed.

The spokesperson said: "We are looking forward to reopening The Moon & Stars on Tuesday (October 22).

"We thank our loyal customers for their patience while the pub has been closed and look forward to welcoming them back."

The refurbishment works include a full redecoration, an increased customer area, as well as "major" structural changes.

The spokesperson told the Recorder that these structural works have resolved "a number of persistent leaks" that had previously caused temporary closures.

In the customer area, several of the pillars have had their width reduced to "increase the number of covers".

A rebuilt and redesigned roof terrace, with increased cover for the winter months is also part of the revamp.

This is expected to be open before Christmas, with a current date set for December 16.

The Moon and Stars - which had a £1.3 million refurb in 2019 - opened in 1994 in a premises formerly occupied by Bonbon Ladies' Fashions, according to its Wetherspoons listing.
