Pictures from the scene of a crash that took the lives of a pregnant woman and her unborn child show the carnage left behind.
The collision, which involved a police car, happened in Kidbrooke Park Road near Eltham Park Road at around 6.15pm yesterday (October 17).
Police, London Ambulance Service paramedics, London Fire Brigade and London’s Air Ambulance all attended.
A heavily pregnant woman, who was also in a car, and her unborn baby died as a result of their injuries.
Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Two police officers, who were in an unmarked car, were also taken to hospital following the crash.
They have since been discharged.
Pictures from the scene show a cordon in place surrounding the aftermath of the crash.
Emergency service vehicles with blue lights on can be seen inside the cordon as well as severely damaged cars.
The pictures also show debris scattered across the ground from the incident.
Detective Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry, in charge of policing in Greenwich, said: "My heart goes out to the woman’s family and friends who have lost their loved ones in these tragic circumstances.
"An investigation into the circumstances of this collision is under way by the Independent Office for Police Conduct and we will assist with their enquiries in any way we can.
"A road closure will remain at the scene today and I am grateful for the patience of the local motorists, who will need to use alternative routes."
