A man has been arrested after allegedly threatening people in Sutton and attempting to flee from police.

On Friday evening (October 18), officers were called to reports of a man threatening members of the public on Sutton High Street.

Police quickly attended the scene and identified the suspect, who allegedly fled the scene.

After a brief foot chase across Throwley Way and onto the Benhill Estate, he was detained and arrested.

Further checks showed the suspect was wanted for other offences, so he was also arrested on suspicion of those offences.

A spokesperson for Sutton MPS said: “On the evening of Friday 18 October 2024, officers from the Sutton town centre team were called to reports of an adult male threatening members of the public on the High Street.

“Officers attended promptly and identified the suspect - he made off from officers and after a brief foot chase across Throwley Way and onto the Benhill Estate; he was detained and arrested.

“Further checks confirmed that the suspect was also wanted for other offences and therefore he was further arrested for those too.

“I want to extend a massive thank you to all the members of the public who called in to report this incident, and the witnesses on the ground who helped to identify the suspect and where he had gone - without your help, a dangerous individual would likely still on the streets.”
