Nearly 200 homes are set to be built in Croydon after being given the green light by the council.
The site at 17-21 Dingwall Road has been empty for a number of years and will help to regenerate the area near East Croydon railway station.
The development by Bellway Homes will include 20 affordable homes, 19 three-bedroom family homes, as well as a children’s play area for residents and greenery.
The housing will also have disabled car parking spaces and cycle parking.
An application was previously granted planning permission but has faced challenges with the viability and delivery of the plans.
The council’s planning department have worked with the developer to address any issues and have approved an amended scheme.
The new change to the previous approval includes adding space for an NHS facility and ambulance bay.
This, along with protected land for possible future tram expansion, will help the community and ensure that the town centre housing growth has the necessary infrastructure support.
Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon, said: “The regeneration of Croydon is a priority for me in making Croydon cleaner, safer and healthier, so I’m delighted this vacant brownfield site will be transformed.
“The scheme will see the delivery of 199 homes, helping to meet the housing needs of our borough.”
Jamie MacArthur, Regional Planning Director for Bellway London, said: “This new development in Dingwall Road will transform a vacant site into a high-quality residential scheme, delivering a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, alongside communal gardens and play space, a residents’ lounge and a residents’ gym.
“This new building will enhance the street scape in what is an incredibly well-connected part of Croydon, just a few minutes’ walk from East Croydon station, and will also provide space for a new NHS facility to benefit both new and existing residents in the area.
“Now planning permission has been secured, we are looking forward to seeing this high-profile scheme progress to the next stages of delivery.”
