Police have flocked to a major street in Woolwich after a “suspicious item” was found in the basement of a house.
The incident was reported by a resident clearing out a home in Market Street just after 10.55am today (October 28).
Specialist officers are in attendance and are currently examining the item.
As a precaution a police cordon is in place in the surrounding area while investigations continue.
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “At 10:56hrs on Monday, 28 October, police were called to a house in Market Street, SE18, after a resident found an item they believed to be suspicious within the basement of a property they were clearing out.
“Specialist officers are in attendance and are currently examining the item.
“As a precaution a cordon is in place surrounding the area while investigations continue.”
