Cast your minds back to 1995. It’s the battle of “Britpop” two of the greatest bands of the time Blur and Oasis are pitted head to head, both releasing singles on the same day.

It was Oasis vs Blur, the North vs the South.

But what now, for modern indie rock fans who is on the rise and who can they listen to.

Well there is a new choice, two fantastic bands Fontaines DC and Wunderhorse have both released new albums “Romance” and “Midas” respectively, the two bands have been on tour through the Uk and in 2025 are doing a joint tour of Japan, Australia and New Zealand, so not exactly the same distasteful feeling as Blur and Oasis.

However both bands have shown they have much to offer to their fans, such as Sir Elton John who spoke about the Fontaines saying “For me, you’re the best band out there at the moment,” and on the new album said “You seem to have found your feet with this album in such a big way… it’s a brilliant record.”

I find the Fontaines DC really have their routes dig deep in Ireland with lyrics that have a strong meaning and show their culture fantastically, I recommend anyone to listen to their new album as it has a range of musical styles as they show a more energetic sound in “Bug” but also a much darker tone to some songs such as “Romance”, I feel the shifts throughout the album truly make it great.

Wunderhorse on the other hand seem to have a much rawer and intense sound in songs such as “Midas”.

Though the bands consistency in creating emotional music and strong lyrics such as in “Teal” is what really draws me, and many others to them.

In the end both bands have had an amazing rise and I believe they will both expand on their sounds and continue to make brilliant songs.

I recommend anyone to give them a listen and they will soon develop a greater fan base due to the sheer brilliance they create.
