A treasured pub in Bromley has been serving locals since 1938 and is now blending a rich history with a modern community focus.

The Oak on Widmore Road is housed in a building that once featured coaching stables—which has now been transformed into an intimate dining room.

The Oak offers a rare combination of historic character and contemporary flair.

Its cosy interior and welcoming staff make it a preferred spot for locals seeking a classic British pub experience with a modern twist.

Rumour has it that David Bowie himself may have once pulled up a stool at The Oak.

The current team is headed by Kiki, a longstanding member of the Bromley pub scene.

Chris Kelly, Director of pub group Fest and Revel, said: “She’s really passionate about making sure people have the best experience possible whether it’s date night on a Monday or bottomless brunch with your pals on a Saturday.”

In recent months, the pub has introduced a fresh menu under the guidance of new head chef Jess, who brings a wealth of experience from food-led pubs.

The menu prioritises local and seasonal ingredients, showcasing beers from nearby brewers like Gipsy Hill, Three Acres, and Larkins, while also offering continental favourites such as Paulaner Munich Helles on draught.

Known for their well-rounded drinks list, The Oak’s happy hour cocktail offerings have also gained a loyal following.

The Oak’s hidden courtyard garden is a local secret that attracts visitors in the warmer months, providing a peaceful spot away from the street’s hustle and bustle.

Patrons are invited to cosy up indoors and enjoy The Oak’s lineup of seasonal events, including charity quizzes, wreath-making, craft markets, and even a sip-and-paint night.

With festive plans underway, December promises a special meet-and-greet with Santa himself, alongside a three-course Christmas menu that showcases Jess’s talents.

Chris added: “We’re a modern community pub with a passion for great food and drink delivered with a smile.

“I think there are three major spaces in most people’s lives. Work, home and where you go for a drink with friends.

“We aim to be that third space you go to when you need a pint and a chat.

“We’re always welcoming, we’ve always got your favourite drink and we’ve always food something tasty for you to eat.”
