What to do when you hunger for tasty home cooked flavours but can't be bothered to source and cook it yourself?

A take-away is the obvious answer, but so few deliver the kind of comforting, healthy hit of the home chef.

Mama Bou has the answer, dishing up Lebanese and sometimes Greek homemade meals daily - 'made with love just like mama's'.

You know it's not an industrial outfit when you hop online to find a rotating selection of Middle Eastern dishes cooked fresh daily, and a tribute to owner Mansour's mother who taught him everything he knows.

He says: “Having worked on my own catering company and as an executive chef in Amsterdam, I have had several people asking for easily accessible daily food that is healthy and made from the heart.

"That is where Mama Bou was born. I wanted to create a tribute to my own mother, and bring the nostalgia from her cooking to the people of London. I can’t wait to share these dishes and make home cooked meals accessible to all.”

Monday is meat patties and potato bake, Tuesday lemon artichoke stew or beef with broad beans, and so it goes on. All are halal, made from fresh seasonal ingredients, and include plenty of veggie options.

At the moment Mansour only delivers within a 3 mile radius of his Islington kitchen, via UberEats, Deliveroo or their site mama@mamabou.co.uk.

There are five dishes on at the weekend, and everyday items like their creamy hummus and even creamier Tzatziki.

Laced with chunks of crunchy cucumber, it was the perfect accompaniment for a selection of mini pies, kibbeh and sambousek - thought to be the inspiration for samosas.

Some looked like empanada or mini pasties, some were long filo pastry rolls oozing creamy cheese, our favourites were the bulgar wheat and onion kibbeh stuffed with spiced beef and pine nuts, and the gorgeous lamb filled savoury pastries.

A fattoush salad with crunchy toast squares and cucumber, radish and lettuce came with a Middle-Eastern dressing. We loved the Batata Souffle, a kind of Lebanese twist on the cottage pie, and the spicy marinated chicken 'biryani' with flavourful rice and vegetables.

Portions are generous and we heaped on more of the lovely hummus and Tzatziki - feeling sated but not unhealthy, thanks to the veg rich, low fat Mediterranean fare.

At weekends you can order a lovely looking spinach and feta and herb spanakopita, or a meat dumplings in yoghurt sauce. And I just bet that Mansour's Friday 'Musakka' is a classic.

The delivery drop goes as far as Clapton, Crouch End, Hampstead and Shoreditch and into central London so the good news is that Mama Bou is accessible for a great swathe of North London.
