A mum “wants justice” for her 14-year-old daughter after she was reportedly attacked on Halloween night in a Belvedere park, leaving her shaken and requiring treatment in hospital.
Lacey was assaulted on October 31 in a park near Nuxley Road and police who were on patrol nearby responded to reports of the attack just before 6.45pm.
It was alleged that Lacey had been assaulted by a boy who was part of a larger group, when out trick or treating with a friend who she "told to run" when the boys began their attack.
Lacey’s mum, Mary, told the News Shopper: “I'm really angry at the minute, very angry.
“I just want to get to the bottom of it. I want to get justice for Lacey.
“At the end of the day, it's disgusting that eight boys can do this to her. It's so wrong.”
Mary said that her daughter thought that the group were a similar age to her, maybe slightly older, and claims that one of the members of the group also had a knife.
The London Ambulance Service attended the scene and transported Lacey to the hospital.
Her injuries included bruises, a swollen face, and marks along her neck, head, and back.
Mary added: “I used to go to that park all the time with my younger children, but now it's really put me off."
The assault has left Lacey not only with physical injuries but also fearful and hesitant to return to school, according to her mum.
Mary said police had been investigating the area for forensic evidence, but a senior officer later concluded the case due to what was described as a “lack of investigative opportunity.”
This decision has caused frustration for Lacey’s family, who believe that more could be done to bring her attackers to justice.
The family is urging anyone who was in the park that night or who may have seen the group to come forward, noting that security footage from nearby homes or shops could provide key evidence.
Mary urges people with more information to “come forward so it does not happen again”.
The police have stated they will reopen the investigation if new information comes to light. They are encouraging anyone with details about the group or the incident to contact them by calling 101 or reaching out via social media @MetCC, quoting reference CAD6740/31OCT.
Tips can also be given anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were on patrol at 18:42hrs on Thursday, 31 October around Belvedere, when they were made aware of an assault on Nuxley Road.
“The young girl reported that she has been assaulted by a boy who was part of a larger group.
“London Ambulance Service were in attendance and the victim was taken to hospital with multiple, minor injuries.
“Following a review from a senior officer, this investigation has since been filed due to a lack of investigative opportunity. Should further information come to light, this decision could be reviewed.
“Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or ‘X’ @MetCC and quote CAD6740/31OCT.
“You can also provide information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
