A milestone has been reached for a new high-rise tower block under construction in Dagenham.
The topping out marked the completed frame at the Barking and Dagenham Council-owned Transport House development.
Work now begins on fitting it out ready for families to start moving in — intended for the new year.
“We’ve made sure the building process is as sustainable as possible,” Hollybrook contractors director Kevin Parsons said.
“Modern construction methods mean 60 per cent was assembled off site, minimising disruption to neighbours and reducing our vehicle movements and carbon footprint.”
The Transport House site, formerly a base of the Unite trade union, is being redeveloped for 149 energy efficient homes heated by air source pumps.
Council leader Dominic Twomey said: “We’re dedicated to delivering the highest quality homes for people in Barking and Dagenham, and the sustainable homes being delivered at Transport House will help residents reduce their energy bills in warm, comfortable, and healthy homes."
