The Royal Borough of Greenwich will change its name to celebrate the upcoming release of Wicked this week.
Greenwich has been renamed to “GreenWitch” today (November 12).
A new plaque has been unveiled by the Mayor of Greenwich on the Greenwich Foot Tunnel.
The plaque unveiling event happened between 8am and 9am.
Councillor Jit Rananhbhat was also in attendance.
Wicked stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as Elphaba and Glinda respectively.
Wicked tells the story of Elphaba, a young woman misunderstood by her unusual green skin, and Glinda, a popular young woman with privilege and ambition who has yet to discover her true heart.
The two meet as students at Shiz University in the fantastical land of Oz and forge an unlikely but profound friendship.
Following an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads, and their lives take very different paths.
Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
The film also stars many notable award-winning actors.
These include Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh as the Madame Morrible, Olivier Award winner and Emmy nominee Jonathan Bailey as Prince Fiyero, Tony nominee Ethan Slater as a Munchkin student, Marissa Bode as Nessarose. And Jeff Goldblum as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Wicked will be in UK cinemas from November 22.
