A former park play area in Manor Park could be reinstated with a new children's climbing frame.

Newham Council has entered a planning application to bring the new play equipment to Little Ilford Park.

The park was once home to two play areas for children of all ages.

But as of 2023, the timber structure in the older children's play area had to be removed "due to safety concerns", according to planning documents.

As a result of the planned height of the equipment, the proposal must gain the approval of the local planning authority.

It is understood that the increased height has been decided upon to make it "more challenging" for older children.

Other features of the proposed climbing frame include two towers connected by a high level walkway and an enclosed spiral slide from the tallest tower.

The new equipment would be made from steel frame supports, plastic and laminated parts to "provide a much more durable and long lasting facility", according to the application.

The development will be contained within the previous play area footprint and will occupy around half of the original play area grounds.

Arrangements have been made for the existing safety surfacing to be replaced with grass in the event that the plans are approved.

The council has also advised that it could consider future possibilities of extending the play area to its former size if additional funding becomes available.
