People are being urged to have their say on leisure and community activities in the £8 billion new neighbourhood known as Brent Cross Town.

Barnet Council has launched the consultation on community space for the 6,700 home, 180-acre regeneration area it is developing to the south of Brent Cross Shopping Centre.

Along with new homes, the plans include workspace for 25,000 people, a new high street with restaurants, shops and leisure as well as schools and community facilities.

The first residential building was scheduled to be completed in “around” October and will consist of 120 homes spread across a nine-storey block and a 12-storey block. As well as being home to new residents these homes will replace the homes of the residents on the neighbouring Whitefield Estate.

As developers Related Argent and Barnet Council prepare to move in the first residents, the council is seeking public input to shape the neighbourhood’s community space plans.

In an online survey, which launched on October 25, it asks what residents use their “current community space for” and what activities they would “most like to see provided”.

The survey lists possible activities including open mic nights, fitness classes, and parent and toddler groups.

The council also asks about attendance of events “currently programmed” at Claremont Park, The Exploratory Park, and The Visitor Pavillion; different sites around Brent Cross Town.

The consultation, which will run for around three months, will close on January 31, 2025.

The council says: “We have an exciting opportunity to work with residents and local groups to shape our first community space and the type of services and activities that we could provide there.

“We also want your views on the types of events and activities you would like to see included in our community events programme next year and beyond.

“Our aim is to hear from as many local people as possible so that we can develop spaces, events and activities that everyone can feel a part of.”

A series of discussion groups will also run as the community space develops.
